The iWatch may be your future corporate gift from Trims
If I ask you what time it is, do you look to your cell phone or to your wrist for the answer? Soon both might mean the same thing.
We’ve been glued to our phones for information since … er, oops. It seems technology has caused me to lose all perception of time and space. Let’s just say it’s been awhile. For many, watches have become more of an accessory than a thing of utility. I haven’t owned a watch since I was timing breath-holding contests, but it seems like we’re about to make a shift. Watches are morphing into something very Bond-esque.
Apple? Did somebody say Apple?
Last week it was reported by multiple anonymous Apple employees that a new wrist watch is in development. Now Bloomberg is reporting that there’s a team — rolling 100 people deep — that is working on the smartwatch, and that it has moved past the testing phase.
So … this is happening.
The watch would operate on the iOS operating system and is expected to feature the paper-like, bendable glass developed by Corning.
We’ve seen products such as the Nike Fuelband and Jawbone’s Up that track activity, but that kind of communication is limited in comparison. Is now the time for wearable technology?
While I’m still grappling with my answer, Google’s already looking to land prime real estate on our faces with Google Glass. Here’s what Google has in mind for the end of 2013.
Granted, we’re already in the habit of wiring into our gadgets – attaching them to our ears or strapping them to our arms during a run. We have a ridiculous habit of holding our phones out in front of our faces (remember the woman who fell into a fountain while texting?). Maybe we need to take a step back, or maybe we’re too ready.
I’ll certainly take a smartwatch over my old breath-holding timer, but when the conversation turns to smart glasses – I like the way the world looks through my own eyes just fine. Buzz me on my smartwatch in a few years and we’ll see if I’m cool enough for a pair then.
